Aesop Brighton

Aesop Brighton conjures wistful memories of childhood holidays and a simpler life. The façade and interior walls are saturated with a deep blue-green that recalls the oxidised railings of the city’s seashore. Vincent Van Gough’s painting ‘The Bedroom’ (1889) inspired the mood of a somewhat unsettling serenity. The space is divided into multiple rooms, nooks, and crannies that facilitate moments of privacy and reflection. The main sequence of three open rooms gives a sense of voyage. In the most intimate depths of the store, a re-upholstered sofa and floor lamp beside a porcelain sink create a domestic scene. Pre-existing timber parquetry has been sanded back to reveal its character. Patinated pine and rattan furniture retains the aura of sojourns past. Verdigris shelving blends into the walls, which have been coated in a pigmented plaster that heightens textural and tonal variations.
