Emulating the pigment of the façade, slender terracotta bricks—handcrafted in the south of France—are stacked into a mosaic parquetry that runs along the floor and up the walls. During sultry summer days, the thermal properties of these bricks create a cool and calming environment.
On an apricot-hued street corner in Aix-en-Provence, our in-house design team created a store full of light and texture. More than 15,000 bricks and tiles were assembled piece by piece into the store. During sultry summer days, the thermal properties of these bricks create a cool and calming environment.
The bricks’ raw faces are left exposed, revealing traces of their artisanal manufacture. Celadon-enamelled tiles highlight recessed gridlines and curvilinear cutaways. The sculptural vase that greets the visitor and the teapot and cups used to serve customers were made by a local potter.
